Yushamin is a significant uthra (angel or guardian) in Mandaeism, holding the title of the "Second Life." This designation places Yushamin as the first emanation to be created by Hayyi Rabbi (The Great Life, the supreme God in Mandaeism). Yushamin's role is complex and sometimes portrayed with ambiguity. While considered a high-ranking and ultimately benevolent being of the World of Light (alma ḏ-nhūra), Mandaean texts also describe a rebellion led by Yushamin and his sons. This rebellion, stemming from a desire to participate in creation without the First Life's explicit consent, is seen as the catalyst for the creation of the material world ( tibil), which is considered flawed in Mandaean cosmology. Despite this initial transgression, Yushamin is eventually forgiven.
